Hey Stevie,

Great post and the timing is perfect. I'm new to Twitter and am just now getting a feel for it - but I have already noticed the 'community' experience you speak of. I'm looking forward to learning more about Twitter.

We live in such a disconnected world, even off-line...

That we do. Lately I've been pondering whether being more connected globally results in being less connected locally - or if its actually the other way around.

Dawn, that's so funny. I was thinking of titling my next Twitter-related post "Twitter...Where everybody knows your name!"

I've been thinking of that for the past few days. We live in such a disconnected world, even off-line. People talk about the isolation of working on the internet. But as social networks that effectively connect people like Twitter does spring up, there's a positive synergy coming from all these people connecting in ways that matter to them.

What's great with Twitter is that your stool is always saved, and, if you invest some time in connecting with people and contributing to them positively, there will always be someone to call out "hey, Norm/Dawn/Jared/DrTodd/Stevie/Your name!"

The fact that it will probably impact your business's bottom line is just icing on a Twee-licious cake! ;)

Hey Dr. Todd! Thanks for the added insight (and cool "Twitter-eeze"--(sp?)). It's been one of the greatest boosts to my business and to my personal network (let alone my attitude!LOL!) to get on Twitter.

See you back on Twitter!

Jared, seems like there's a big lesson we who are going after really making a living (or building an empire! ;) ) on the internet need to understand and learn. It's that you can learn all the traffic, copy and conversion "tricks" in the world, but in the long run, reputation, connection and character count. It's part of the "you reap what you sow" law.

Cite away! We all need these reminders in an industry fraught with an instant gratification mentality.

Stevie, Don't you find it interesting that what you just described sounds like a scene from "Cheers"? AND don't you find it interesting that most of us who are participating on Twitter are of the age that we would have watched "Cheers"?

Do you suppose this is a deeply held desire to have someone keep our stool saved just for us and call out, "Norm!" when we come in? Don't we all want to be a part of a place "where everybody knows your name"? :)

Thanks for this helpful, insightful encouragement to get out and get busy Twittering myself.

Hey Stevie! As another tweeter entering the fray around the same time as you I concur completely. The tweetiverse is exceptional -- and it's outrageously difficult to explain it to a twitirgin. After one's first time, well, let's just say life changes. ;-)

The greatest benefit of social networking is greater than the obvious meaning of the phrase. Sure, we get to know others and see their business and promote ours; but there is an immense growth in perspective one gains simply by watching others, especially on Twitter.

Twivyeurism has benefited me even more when I just sit back and watch because I gain an immediate insight into the thoughts and actions of others, and by seeing through their eyes and intelligence, new sparks fire within my own thought processes. It's both a micro- and a macro-scope.

Great post! It's been wonderful getting to know you a bit through Twitter.

Tweet soon,

DrTodd "TheAptitudeDoc"

Excellent post! I plan to cite one line you said "Marketing on social networks takes time. It’s an investment in tomorrow and the future, not usually today."

Wow! Well said! If I could only pound that truth into some people's heads.
